Favoritism

I walk down in the Old City in the mornin'

Walk by a puddle, strong scent of urine,

Posters for rappers who are tourin'

Talk to a junkie, his words slurrin'

Just blocks away, there are pastors,

Debating the Shroud of Turin, 

Oblivious to these people who are hurtin'

God is no longer behind the curtain

I know men who hang drywall board,

Who walk closer with the Lord,

Who can properly use The Sword,

Better than some guys on the deacon board.

Defined "Diakonos: servant, slave"

But they think they the master,

The church is their trade.

Putting burdens on people's backs,

Saying girls can't wear slacks.

These are not following Jesus' tracks.

Jesus came to unite all peoples into one body,

But you won't let another take your place,

 because his house is shoddy?

Favoritism is a sign of the debased,

Mr. High and Haughty,

to the Devil this behavior can be traced.

God has chosen those who are poor to be rich in Christ.

You think by your partiality shines The Light?

So act as those who are judged under the law of liberty,

Christ is not only learned at seminary.

Faith without works is dead,

Get that through your pride-swollen head.
